An ex-MG Rover engineer turned MP has urged grassroots factory managers to get involved with his new Westminster lobby group for manufacturing.
Chris White called on WM readers to speak out about industry challenges and help shape the agenda of the Associate Parliamentary Manufacturing Group (APMG).
The APMG co-chair and Conservative MP for Warwick and Leamington said: "I believe the APPG will become a really good mouthpiece for manufacturers. I want to hear from your readers on the issues they face."
White and his fellow MPs launched the APMG this February with a view to boosting manufacturing's profile at Westminster.
White, who worked at MG Rover's Longbridge site, before entering politics, said he was delighted with progress so far.
He said: "Our first meeting was massively successful. People don't usually queue up to get into parliamentary meetings at 8.30 in the morning."
Access to finance dominated the first meeting attended by 18 MPs and industry representatives. The APMG aims to produce a guidebook for MPs on the range of financing options available for manufacturers following the meeting.
Longer term projects could include recommendations to government on future manufacturing policy, White hinted.
He added: "I don't want to big myself up too much. There's lots of things to be done...I think what we all realise is if we want a thriving economy we need a balanced economy and that has to be led by a resurgent manufacturing sector."
