National logistics firm Nightfreight has announced the appointment of Ian Smith as chief executive officer, as part of what the business describes as "sweeping plans" for growth and innovation.
Smith (pictured) joined the company in March as consultant, before moving in permanently as chief operating officer. This latest move to the position of CEO will see him leading the company's efforts to offer hybrid transport solutions, combining shared user and dedicated services to clients in the B2B and B2C sectors.
Smith said: "A slight upturn in the economy is enabling us to offer more sophisticated solutions… For us, it's all about delivering a great customer experience, listening to our clients and providing a broader service offer.
"The strength of Nightfreight is our ability to mix and match the combination of dedicated and shared services, delivering a more variable cost proposition for our UK-wide customers. It's an exciting future, and I'm pleased to be at the forefront of this growth with my fellow board members and team."
Smith's 20-year career has spanned senior management and board level appointments in third party logistics with Exel Logistics, NYK Logistics, Unipart and Tibbett & Britten.
