A radically redesigned user interface, better administrator functionality and reporting, and choices of underlying technology are the keys to Oracle's newly released JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools for the eponymous ERP system.
Lyle Ekdahl, group vice president and general manager for JD Edwards at Oracle, sees the release as a vindication of Oracle's stance – proving the software giant's commitment to this well established manufacturing ERP solution.
Indeed, he sees it as one of the most significant releases for the solution, describing it as "the most exciting JD Edwards has ever brought to market".
The new tools, he says, will help customers maximise the value of JD Edwards' existing and new EnterpriseOne ERP applications by optimising everything from installation to updates and management.
Looking briefly at the new user interface, most notable are the configurable homepage, new menu options and updated process maps, which Oracle claims will increase productivity.
On the reporting side, there are more advanced end-user query capabilities and drop-down menus for viewing the status and output of reports.
Then on IT administration, in conjunction with Oracle Enterprise Manager, one of the achievements should be higher stability – with new options enabling staff to define memory usage thresholds and alerts to remediate runaway processes.
And it's a similar story with high availability and disaster recovery enhancements in this latest tools release, which Oracle says increase the resiliency of business services and transaction servers, helping to eliminate single points of failure.
"The result is a dramatically improved user experience that, when combined with innovative new capabilities, makes it significantly easier to install, manage and upgrade JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications," states Ekdahl.
