An influential group of parliamentarians and manufacturing organisations has called on the government to offer long-term support programmes for businesses.
Responding to the BIS Select Committee's call for evidence, the All-Party Parliamentary Manufacturing Group (APMG) urged Whitehall to design business support to be simple and easy to use with the end-user in mind rather than bureaucratic procedures, and to be piloted before full roll-out.
It also said support should be worked out in consultation with trade associations, industry experts and academics, and communication about available programmes must be improved and expanded.
The APMG is a cross-party coalition of Parliamentarians and manufacturing organisations that works to develop new industrial policy ideas, critique existing government decision-making around manufacturing, communicate within Parliament the importance of a well-balanced productive economy, and help the manufacturing community better engage with the policy process.
