Consolidation in the CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) arena continues with Pathtrace being acquired by Planit, already the holding company for Alphacam and Radan Computational, as well as Licom and HRS. Adding Pathtrace to the line-up gives Planit considerable extra strength in engineering design, pushing it up to around 50,000 customers world-wide. “This is a further reinforcement of our commitment to this market sector,” says Planit’s chief operating officer Bryan Pryce. “Pathtrace’s principal product line EdgeCAM is a well respected and highly capable off-line programming system, which complements our existing strengths in the engineering sector.” Just as important, Pathtrace is a certified SolidWorks CAM partner, and has offices well beyond the UK – in the US, China and Japan – as well as a global distribution network, meaning the prospect of considerable extra growth for the whole Planit stable of CAM and also potentially for its production management software. “Overall, Pathtrace provides an excellent fit with existing group companies, which will enable us to significantly increase our share of the $1.2 billion global manufacturing software market,” says Pryce.
