Additional manufacturing and supply chain functionality, support for Windows Vista and access to on-demand tax automation are among major enhancements to Epicor Vantage ERP.
Aimed at mid make-to-order and mixed-mode manufacturers and distribution organisations with up to 2,000 concurrent users, the system is being billed as the route to greater business agility.
Because it’s based on Microsoft .Net 3.0, the 2007 Microsoft Office system and Windows Vista, the new system requires less ramp-up time to use, according to the company. Also, since it now offers expanded third-party application integration via Epicor Service Connect, it should be very flexible.
At a practical level, notable enhancements are in the areas of planning, scheduling and production management – effectively streamlining these processes. For example, enhanced global finite scheduling offers real-time assessment of short-term plant and warehouse capacity in terms of material, machines and labour.
It also provides improved visibility into material and capacity needs for planning: in real-time, organisations can view material constraints with direct links to information such as purchase order, job and lead time, as well as short horizon supply – meaning MRP that’s closer to the wire.
