QAD BI 3.5 business intelligence software, now on general availability, is interesting in that it uses mobile technology to deliver fast, flexible and very easy access to data and analytics.

The manufacturing ERP software developer makes the point that in today's increasingly networked environments, business decisions need to be based on data and analytics from several source and formats. Bill Keese, senior vice president of R&D for QAD, says that users can source data via a browser using QAD's BI Collaborative Portal, or via a new iPad application – with the latter application available via the Apple App Store. . He also states that, unlike earlier 'conventional' BI tools that require significant IT investment to execute basic data analysis, the new suite allows users to conduct "sophisticated, complex analysis anywhere, anytime, using simple, user-friendly functionality". In brief detail, QAD BI 3.5 uses its own data repository, populated using the company's own ETL (extract, transform, load) tool. QAD has also streamlined the process of data analysis, and Keese says it mitigates the guesswork for most companies on what they should view and measure. "QAD BI 3.5 is at the forefront of business intelligence technology," states Keese. "We're particularly excited about the collaborative aspects of this application that allow users to share analytics or post questions about their BI data."
