An engineer from Northampton is to be amongst the first in the world to receive a new ICT professional qualification from the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology).

Matthew Rumsey, 22, a transmission engineer at B,T is one of the first eight candidates to be recommended to receive ICTTech – the professional qualification launched in January following industry demand for a competence-based IT qualification. Rumsey, an IET member who is currently studying for a degree in ICT, says: "I feel very privileged to be gaining professional registration. It gives me a lot of pride to be recognised outside of the business for what I do, especially through peer assessment." Says Michelle Richmond, IET director of membership and Professional Development, "It's a real achievement for Matthew that he is among the first eight people in the world to achieve this brand new professional qualification. "ICTTech will help employers to identify ICT practitioners who hold the skills they need while also recognising technical expertise, greatly strengthening professionalism and ethical practice in a key sector of employment."
