Daimler and its global suppliers will have migrated their CAD systems to Siemens PLM NX by end of 2015 for cars and 2016 for trucks engineering.
The extensive rollout will eventually replace Daimler's entire CAD digital product development environment under the fastest implementation rate feasible – building on Daimler's existing Siemens Teamcenter product data management and PLM environment.
Professor Alfred Katzenbach, who heads up IT management R&D at Mercedes Benz Cars, says that, as part of the new worldwide 10-year agreement, Daimler will begin using Siemens PLM Software's technology in its first vehicle series beginning in 2012.
Siemens PLM Software will begin enabling Daimler's vast network of suppliers starting in July this year, with a goal of achieving a seamlessly integrated supply chain-wide CAD suite, he says.
"Our 10-year agreement reinforces the clear objective of Daimler AG to use the most advanced technology in the industry to deliver unsurpassed quality products to our customers," states Katzenbach. "Our objective is to further improve the support of our business processes by implementing a seamlessly integrated CAD suite."
"Daimler's commitment and implementation plan for NX highlights the enhanced strategic relationship we initially announced in November 2010, and underscores the long-term relationship that we're both looking for in this union," adds Chuck Grindstaff, president and CTO of Siemens PLM Software.
"The growing complexity of vehicle design and development has forced numerous automotive companies to evaluate the systems currently in place to ensure they are using best-in-class technology," he adds. "Daimler is no exception."
