Top traffic sign designer shows the way with Autodesk and Imass

LED-based traffic information systems maker Variable Message Signs (VMS) says Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD, Productstream data management solution and AutoCAD Electrical is helping it to design faster and more accurately, and to win new business.

Inventor was initially used to model conceptual designs when tendering for a large Highways Agency Project. VMS went on to win the contract and the system is now helping its team to communicate progress of the project to the client. “Because we can now model designs and discuss them before we invest in materials or go to manufacture, the solution takes away much of the risk for us,” says Bill Hamilton of VMS. “Also, previously, one of the big issues for us was that we had nothing tangible to show our clients until a good way into a project. Now we can reassure them at progress meetings by showing them the model.” Hamilton says that Imass Design Solutions, along with establishing a dedicated, internal project champion, Gary Cadman, has been key in helping make a success of the implementation. Says Cadman: “Many companies would have merely said, ‘there’s the product and there’s the manual’. However Imass has been with us all the way from the decision-making process to support and training.”
