Toray Membrane enhances operational visibility with Infor

US water treatment manufacturer Toray Membrane says its Infor ERP system is now handling everything from planning and sourcing to manufacturing and delivery at its new Poway, California plant.

Toray COO Steve Cappos says the company selected Infor ERP Visual for its business-specific functionality, and specifically its data management, order quote generation and product traceability. Overall, he says the solution is helping Toray to manage regulatory compliance, improve customer service and gain greater visibility into its operations. “Bringing an IT system online is never easy, but when you couple it with bringing a new facility online, it can be a real challenge,” he says. “Infor understood our industry and business requirements, and was able to get us up and running within our compressed timeframe. We are confident that the flexibility, visibility and scalability of Visual will enable us to keep up with growing demand and gain a competitive advantage in the market,” he adds. In a little detail, the system helps expose Toray Membrane’s manufacturing processes, allowing the company, for example, to define quality test plans and record the results for quality assurance. That alone, says Cappos, enables the company to reduce production problems and increase overall product quality. Also, in the event of a quality issue, Toray can now trace underlying problems back to the originating action or transaction, and then make adjustments before minor issues become major, he says. Ultimately, he expects this level of control over the production processes to mitigate quality issues, reduce scrap and ensure a higher level of customer service. He also refers to Infor Visual’s role-specific interfaces, which work by allowing employees to activate customised menus of information, making data searching and retrieval faster. Cappos believes that these enable employees to make more informed decisions more quickly, specifically improvign both order management and customer service, while increasing employee productivity.
