Toyota supplier Futaba Industrial UK is to create up to 100 jobs at its Derbyshire plant as a result of the Burnaston-based car manufacturer's decision to produce the new Auris in the UK, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has reported.
Futaba currently employs 133 people making body panels for Avensis and Auris models (pictured), produced by Toyota in the UK. Next year, Futaba will begin manufacturing fuel tank filler pipes for Toyota, a part currently made in Japan.
The changes were revealed as Paul Heard took over as managing director from Hideo Nakao. Heard said: "We are delighted to be able to announce these new jobs. The final quarter of this year will be an exciting time for both us and Toyota."
Late last year, Toyota announced that it would create an extra 1,500 jobs as part of a major investment drive at Burnaston.
Tony Walker, deputy managing director at Burnaston, said: "We work very closely with suppliers like Futaba and I'm pleased that the positive announcement we made last year is making its way through to the supply chain."
