Minister of State for Trade & Investment, Digby, Lord Jones of Birmingham visited Leyland late last year to officially open Flexcrete’s new premises. The company, which makes specialist concretes and mortars, is rapidly expanding as a result of their success both at home and abroad.
International trade is key to Flexcrete's development, with 50% of its materials currently being exported to more than 30 markets from Austria, Chile and China to Japan, Qatar and Russia.
Lord Jones said: “Flexcrete is an excellent example of a technology based business that has adapted to meet the demands of its customers whether across the globe or at home.
“The North West is now the third most successful region in the UK in terms of export activity, exporting more than £23.7billion worth of goods in 2006. Firms such as Flexcrete are key to maintaining our success in a fiercely competitive global market.”
Lord Jones met company directors Graham James OBE, who is a member of the UKTI/NWDA North West International Business Forum, and Chris Lloyd. The Minister saw a short presentation about the company before touring the new premises and unveiling a commemorative plaque.
Overseas trade is an important part of Flexcrete's business strategy and the company has worked closely with UK Trade & Investment to achieve its success, accessing a wide range of contacts and support through its International Trade Advisor Karen Holden.
