Bristol-based defence and nuclear engineering project management company, Strachan & Henshaw, will purchase £800,000 worth of UGS software to replace its existing 2D drafting, 3D modelling and PDM (product data management) systems. Dean Palmer reports.
Bristol-based defence and nuclear engineering project management company, Strachan & Henshaw, will purchase £800,000 worth of UGS software to replace its existing 2D drafting, 3D modelling and PDM (product data management) systems.
The agreement includes Unigraphics CAD/CAM/CAE software, I-MAN PDM, SolidEdge 3D mechanical CAD, and ProductVision, UGS’ advanced visualisation and collaboration software tool.
Strachan & Henshaw wants the software to support its ongoing move towards a true concurrent engineering environment for product development and manufacturing.
The decision to go with UGS follows the firm’s successful pilot submarine weapons system project. Andrew Mitchell, technical systems leader at Strachan & Henshaw, responsible for rolling out the UGS software, said: “We successfully replaced the existing CAD systems on the project with Unigraphics and implemented i-MAN without causing any delay to the project.”
Multi-disciplinary teams comprising commercial, purchasing, design, engineering and manufacturing will work collaboratively with complete ownership of a project from start to finish. And all information relating to individual projects will be managed by i-MAN, including engineering workflows, revision levels and sign-off procedures.
