It’s been another good month for design software vendor UGS, with more impressive contract wins in the UK manufacturing sector.
First up, John Crane, the mechanical seals manufacturer, has ordered 300 Solid Edge 3D CAD software licenses across its UK engineering sites, to replace its ageing 2D CAD system.
“Support was a big issue for us,” said John Crane’s engineering manager Joe Haas. “Solid Edge proved easiest to use [of the five systems it evaluated] and provides the highest levels of functionality.”
And Cannock-based TKA Body Stampings, the automotive vehicle body parts manufacturer, has also invested in UGS software. The contract, worth £85k, is for UGS’ Unigraphics CAD/CAM/CAE software.
TKA will use Unigraphics to design the tooling required for the presswork and assemblies for a major new project for one of its biggest automotive customers.
Victoria Hulme, TKA’s IT manager, said: “We selected Unigraphics [for its] ability to receive model data from most major CAD/CAM systems. This means that irrespective of the originating design system, we are able to interrogate the 3D model quickly and effectively, perform the tooling design, produce drafts easily and convert the data into the right format for use by our suppliers. This gives us the control we need to ensure that our tools are produced accurately.”
