Simplified migration from either Windows XP or Vista to Windows 7, launched on 22 October, is the promise of new functionality in KBOX management appliances.
Developer KACE says it expects to save organisations, of all sizes, both time and money in their migrations, as a result of its new deployment and management optimisation features, which are aimed at "heavy lifting for organisations upgrading to latest Microsoft OS release".
Rob Meinhardt, CEO and co-founder of KACE, comments that, because of Vista's shortcomings, many companies chose not to deploy Vista – instead staying with ageing Windows XP. He points to a Dimensional Research survey, which suggests that 83% of organisations are likely to skip Vista altogether and migrate directly to Windows 7.
Now, however, with XP reaching its end-of-life, a migration to Windows 7 is getting more critical – and it's likely to be more of a challenge.
"Millions of enterprises around the globe are expected to migrate to Windows 7, but without the right management tools, the migration could wreak havoc on both end users and systems administrators," warns Meinhardt.
"Just last week it was widely reported that organisations were having trouble migrating from Vista. Imagine how tough it will be to bypass Vista and jump to the new operating system?
"With the supporting features in KBOX, KACE significantly eases the pain of Windows 7 migration – from deployment to OS management – and with the affordability and ease-of-use KBOX is known for."
