Alitalia Maintenance Systems has purchased IFS Applications to optimise its MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) processes and shorten turnaround times.
The company, which looks after commercial jet engines from its Rome facility has signed for IFS software licenses, as well as maintenance and services valued at more than €1m.
Giancarlo Rago, purchasing and IT director at Alitalia, believes that IFS Applications will enable the firm to meet industry requirements for consistent, reliable documentation of processes and work.
By the autumn of this year, he says, MRO processes will be fully integrated into one MRO and ERP system provided by IFS, which he expects to reduce turnaround times and optimise spare parts inventory and maintenance planning.
The solution will also provide ERP functionality, covering HR, supply chain management and financials.
"IFS can provide rapid implementation to satisfy the growth strategy of [Alitalia] in the future. We were also impressed by the industry experience of IFS and the high levels of competence displayed by IFS consultants in aerospace and defence, and especially in the engine overhaul processes," comments Rago.
