Food manufacturer Symington's, with brands including Aunt Bessie's, Campbell's, Crosse & Blackwell and Ainsley Harriott, says it expects significant cost savings fro its Infor SCM Warehouse Management system.
Robert Herring, project and development manager at Symington's, says the solution will help to accommodate additional volumes generated by rapid business growth, as well as supporting new product development, while also boosting customer service.
He explains that Infor SCM WM replaces several disparate systems that were inhibiting stock visibility across the firm's manufacturing and business operations.
"As margins continue to be squeezed in the food industry, it is critical that we identify, and strip out, inefficiencies to provide the right platform for growth," comments Herring.
"Infor's warehouse management solution, in conjunction with the experience of its consultants, will help us to improve our processes to deliver huge savings and afford us greater visibility. This in turn will enable us to direct additional resources into new product development and secure an edge over our competitors," he adds.
He expects the solution to deliver year-on-year savings, through increased warehouse efficiency, reduced transport costs, annual stock-take improvements, lower inventory and a smaller IT footprint.
Herring also says that the ability to create advance shipping notes and enable electronic communication with customers will improve processes and boost service levels.
Infor was selected from a shortlist of three, he says, based on the warehouse management solution's ease of use, better shelf life management functionality and reporting capabilities.
