Engineering giant Babcock International is reporting the successful completion of its major application rationalisation project.
The firm, which contracted application migration and portfolio management specialist Camwood for the task, has been on the trail of its more than 22,000 applications worldwide.
Peter Diciacca, application support manager at Babcock International, explains that, having built up an unknown number of applications over the years across its estate, the firm needed to understand which were up-to-date and correctly licensed – as well as which were expendable.
"We started out with an unknown volume of applications across our estate, with an unknown level of complexity," explains Diciacca. Now, at the end of the project, we have a clear understanding of what apps we have and what our managed portfolio looks like."
And he continues: "Camwood has been key to us organising our thoughts and achieving the goals and successes that this project has delivered.
"It's been a successful project and we've not only delivered the targets but exceeded them. Babcock's app estate is now lean and flexible with no money being spent on unnecessary licenses."
Diciacca says that Babcock International "assessed a range of suitable candidates" on price, efficiency and experience. It chose Camwood, he says, because it offered the most cost-effective, best-practice approach based on experience and depth of knowledge.
Camwood led the project, working closely with Diciacca and his team, updating older applications and helping to remove unwanted apps, while streamlining the cost of renewing license fees.
