BAE Systems launches for obsolete parts web tool

BAE Systems has launched a new web site to showcase an award-winning product and service that can help manufacturers to manage obsolete parts on complex systems, such as aircraft, ships, vehicles, machines and electronics.

Gordon Eldridge, vice president and general manager of aerospace solutions at BAE Systems Support Solutions, says that the website, at www.baesystems.com/avcom, uses the company's AVCOM (advanced component obsolescence management) suite of tools and services. AVCOM is a web-enabled tool that allows users to forecast when a part will become obsolete or too expensive, and then finds suitable replacements from across the marketplace, he explains. With a database accessing more than 100 million parts, the tool is already widely used in the military and industry for obsolescence management. However, with four tiers of service, BAE Systems suggests that the tool can also handle a variety of needs and budgets – from inexpensive, small-scale projects to large-scale, complex requirements. "Our customers can never assume that the parts they purchase today will be available tomorrow," he states. "AVCOM offers an accurate, reliable and affordable solution to meet this challenge, plus a proven track record of success."
