BASF has plumped for BT to provide its networked IT services worldwide, with responsibility for interconnecting some 900 sites in 80 countries for the next seven years.
The chemical group says its contract with BT also covers the provision of IP telephony and local network Managed LAN services at 300 sites in North and South America, as well as Asia – and those of its Ciba acquisition.
The new order, worth around 200 million euros, extends BASF's existing work with BT and, according to BASF CTO Fareed Mohammed, builds on BT's experience with manufacturing industry around the world.
"As a global company, we were looking for a partner who is able to provide consistent standards and reliable service delivery on a global scale," comments Mohammed.
"During the course of our cooperation, which dates back to 2003, BT kept convincing us with innovative solutions and the high level of commitment of their employees," he adds.
He also explains that, with employees around the world, a high-performance secure network is critical to enable communication and online access to business-critical IT applications.
