BT becomes global network partner for BASF
Chemicals giant BASF’s WAN is to be operated by BT in the Asia-Pacific region, elevating BT to the status of global network partner, with the organisation connecting more than 750 BASF sites in 80 countries.
BT’s new contract covers 17 countries and 234 sites, and BASF global networks and telecommunications manager Marian-Joachim Scholtysik says the organisation will now be able to access a harmonised network platform worldwide via the MPLS (multi-protocol label switching) platform.
He says BASF is also using BT’s IP-based MPLS network to transmit voice calls and video data between many locations worldwide, partially using encryption for higher data security – and guaranteeing uniform quality of service.
“Thanks to our collaboration with BT, we only have to deal with one partner for all 80 countries”, he says. “This not only guarantees uniform technical standards and processes at all sites, it does also substantially reduce the effort to manage the solution.”
