Bombardier Aerospace is extending its agreement with manufacturing operations management (MOM) software specialist Apriso and standardising on its FlexNet solution.
Bombardier is to work with Apriso to support its production of both the CSeries and Learjet 85 aircraft at its sites in Canada and Mexico, using FlexNet to cover production, quality, maintenance and material synchronisation processes.
Colin Stewart, IT director MES, explains that – given the rate of change associated with aircraft production and technology – Bombardier was looking for a highly flexible, scalable solution capable of adapting quickly to new production processes across multiple sites.
"The FlexNet deployment for the CSeries aircraft has been a 20-month project delivering a rich set of functionality in support of the business requirements," comments Stewart. "And the project is progressing well."
"The deployment in Mexico demonstrated the scalability of FlexNet where we managed to deliver a light set of functionality in support of business needs, in only six months," he continues.
"This flexibility will certainly be important for us as we roll out across all sites."
It's all about manufacturing intelligence. Stewart explains that by linking design, administrative and manufacturing processes, Bombardier can better adapt to changing market conditions while supporting continuous process improvement and frequent engineering change orders.
