Italian drive train designer and manufacturer Carraro Group has invested in PLM (product lifecycle management) software to speed innovation and, it says, gain competitive edge.
The company, which builds systems for earthmoving and materials handling equipment to tractors, cars and escalators, says it will use its new MatrixOne system to manage everything from product requirements capture to development in the design office, creating and managing the design BoMs (bills of materials) – and integrating with its existing ERP and CAD systems.
“As part of Carraro’s overall growth strategy, the adoption of a PLM system allows us, first of all, to leverage a competitive advantage with more complex, innovative design management,” says Marco Tecchio, group technical director.
“Secondly, innovation will now be placed at the centre of all processes; integrating the fundamental aspects of product development from strategic marketing to post-sale services, and from technical skills to system integration.”
He believes the new system will eventually improve the market’s perception of Carraro as a company able to develop “successful and technologically advanced solutions.”
