A new service, dubbed CommerceMail, opens up EDI to millions of buyers and suppliers still relying on faxes and the postal service for supply chain management, according to developer Advanced Data Exchange (ADX).
ADX, which specialises in building electronic trading communities, is billing CommerceMail as the industry’s first supplier relationship management solution that enables manufacturers to use email-based workflow to manage 100% of their trading partners.
Dave Parker, ADX’s CEO, makes the point that connecting with thousands of suppliers electronically has been a challenge, because of the cost and complexity of electronic commerce and EDI.
“We developed CommerceMail to help companies connect with the millions of business around the world who don’t have the time or resources to support complex e-commerce technologies,” he says.
“In today’s business climate, email is the killer app for supplier relationship management – it opens up EDI to 20 million more businesses in the US alone,” he adds.
CommerceMail is delivered on the software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, so there’s no software purchase, installation or support requirement. Manufactures use their existing ERP systems to send orders, while suppliers receive and return business documents using email, all under an automatic, secure, managed service.
