Infor has launched what it is describing as a new breed of business application to address industry-specific needs.
Dubbed Infor Express, instead of the usual 'lite' connotation, it combines functionality from across the company's portfolio of business applications into a single, pre-configured solution.
Greg Lashbrook, vice president, solutions value engineering at Infor, explains that the new system is based the firm's flexible implementation methodology, with full activation within 90 days or at whatever pace the user requires, due to its subscription-based learning programme.
"With Infor Express, Infor is using its application portfolio, expertise and experience to deliver solutions that improve business performance for companies in specific industries – and can be implemented quickly to generate a rapid return on investment," comments Lashbrook.
The first solution, Infor Express Projects, is designed to help project-based manufacturers increase profitability and enhance customer service, he says, through fast, accurate bidding, detailed project monitoring and agile response to changes in the production cycle.
Analysts like what they have seen so far. Bob Parker, group vice president of Research at IDC Manufacturing Insights, says: "What is interesting about the Express initiative at Infor is that they have developed a truly unique approach to rapid deployment. They don't just drop a pre-configured industry template on the customer, but apply agile development [and] rapid prototyping techniques to adapt to the individual customer needs."
