The great and the good from the UK warehousing and logistics industry came together recently to celebrate outstanding achievement with the UKWA annual awards in London.
The trade association's chief exec Roger Williams commented: "UKWA's awards are established as symbols of achievement in the 3PL sector and emphasise the importance of logistics within today's economy. The high number and quality of the entries we received underlines the professionalism that runs through the modern logistics industry."
Winners included Elddis Transport, which scooped the environment award for the range of green, energy-saving initiatives it has implemented at its warehouse and in its vehicle fleet.
DHL Supply Chain picked up the training prize for its work with Jaguar Land Rover. As part of its contract with the car maker, DHL had the tough challenge of providing 600 additional workers to enable production to be increased at JLR's Halewood plant.
Warehouse manager of the year went to Paul Wilson of Century Logistics, who impressed the judges with his professional manner and ability to motivate his team.
Over 450 UKWA members and their guests, together with suppliers to the warehousing industry, attended the ceremony earlier this month at London's Dorchester hotel.
Overall event sponsor was forklift truck manufacturer Jungheinrich UK, with category sponsors including Toyota Material Handling UK, Knapp UK, Translift Bendi and Briggs Equipment.
