The achievements of companies and individuals in the third party logistics sector were recognised at the United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA) awards event on 30 June, when political journalist-come-dancer John Sergeant presented the trophies at a glittering ceremony at London's Dorchester hotel.
UKWA's awards committee considered a record number of entries, and judge and association CEO Roger Williams commented: "UKWA's awards are established as symbols of achievement in the 3PL sector and emphasise the importance of logistics within today's economy. The high number and quality of the entries we received underlines the professionalism that runs through the modern logistics industry."
The winners included:
* Best new UKWA member: MDA, which has secured a number of major 3PL outsourced contracts with blue chip firms in the past year
* Technology and innovation: Jungheinrich UK, for its automated pallet ID and scanning solution
* Training award: PD Logistics, which saw a noticeable drop in accidents and reportable injuries following a concerted commitment to health and safety training in 2008
* Warehouseperson of the year: Darius Januskevicius of Century Logistics, nominated for his achievements and progression within the business
* Team of the year: DHL Supply Chain, for the benefits it has brought to electronics manufacturer Brother UK since taking over its warehouse operations.
With over 600 member companies, the United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA) is the UK's only trade association dedicated to serving the vitally important warehousing and logistics sector. Originally established as a trade body for the third party warehousing sector, membership is now open to any business that operates a warehousing or distribution facility.
