The first annual two-day Automotive Summit for corporate directors and managers throughout the global sector, organised by Microsoft and 14 IT leaders, will open its doors and play host to around 1,000 next week on 13 March in Munich, Germany.
It’s the first in a series of events, dubbed Microsoft Manufacturing Peak Performance Road Show, that will take place in cities across Europe.
Hosted by Microsoft, and supported by Accenture, Dassault Systèmes, Hewlett-Packard, Iconics, Intel, Ivensys Wonderware, Meridio, the OPC Foundation, OSIsoft, Panorama Software, Reynolds and Reynolds, RPMCar, Siemens Automation and Drives and TXT e-solutions, the summit will highlight the companies’ offerings, with analyst briefings and existing user case studies.
Manuel Simas, automotive industry lead at Microsoft EMEA, says: “The automotive industry needs to become much more customer-centric, better integrated and connected in terms of the customer experience it provides, its innovation and its supply networks. At the summit, Microsoft – together with analysts, industry shapers and thought leaders – will provide insight into topics such as innovation and excellence in delivery.”
Theme of this first summit is ‘connecting the automotive value chain through integrated innovation’. Speakers will move beyond straight IT issues and explore trends that are changing the nature of competition and which will have profound implications for the sector.
Day one, aimed at senior executives and thought leaders, will focus on Microsoft’s vision and strategy for the automotive industry leaders. Sessions will include presentations from industry analysts on automotive trends and strategies, as well as a special-interest session on China.
Topics to be covered include value-based service transformation, PLM (product lifecycle management) transformation, achieving agility through synchronised operations and real-time performance management, living in the digital world and IT in the automotive industry.
The second day will consist of parallel sessions for line-of-business executives. Areas of focus will include: streamlining new product development; promoting interoperability across plant floor environments; and improving supply chain dynamics and flexibility.
