Blackburn-based interactive learning firm Promethean says it has successfully implemented Infor ERP LN (formerly Baan) and now expects to get a single view across its business, enabling it to plan manufacturing more efficiently between sites in the UK and China.
It also says the system will allow it to track performance of its departments and ensure local compliance, as well as to rationalise and improve stock visibility – stating that in the UK, it has already reduced part number inventory by a staggering 75%.
The firm explains that to keep up with the pace of business, it needed an accurate and real time view of all operations across finance, sales, manufacturing, customer support and distribution.
Says Neil Johnson, chief financial officer at Promethean: “After experiencing rapid business growth, it was evident that our systems could not keep pace. We made the decision to invest in an ERP system that would streamline the management of information and be scalable to support our future growth.
“From the outset, it was evident that LN was the most comprehensive solution in the marketplace and provided the lowest total cost of ownership of all the solutions we reviewed. LN required minimal customisation, which helped a prompt implementation.”
Blackburn was the first site to go live, with the Infor solution implemented on IBM System p hardware. This site handles the most complex business processes, ranging from order processing, production and planning, to customer support, installation and distribution,” says Johnson. “The next phase of the project is to repeat the UK success in Promethean’s sites in America, China, France and Germany.”
