SAP ships transportation management software

SAP yesterday (22 June 2011) announced general availability of version 8.0 of SAP Transportation Management, with what the software giant describes as "significantly expands its scope of logistics and fulfilment management".

Early adopters includ Abudawood, Artoni, Cargill, CH Guenther and Owens Corning, all of which are already deploying the software in expectation of improved customer service and reduced logistics costs. They are also looking for opportunities to better manage complex operations and improve compliance in moving raw materials, parts and finished goods through their global supply chains. And with SAP's promise centring on the new software creating an environment "that simplifies, automates and interconnects transportation processes" and declaring that it "improves order management, planning and consolidation", they shouldn't disappointed. "With SAP Transportation Management, we're able to better deploy our 100-vehicle fleet, manage numerous carriers, reduce order and inventory cost and optimise visibility and delivery of all orders," states Hazem Mohammed El Banna, CIO at distribution services provider Abudawood. "Our 8.0 release deployment went live last week, after a smooth implementation project, executed in less than four months. As we operate in emerging markets, we need a solution that gives us speed and agility in delivering for customers, but also simplicity and compliance in managing the complexities of local markets," he explains.
