Daimler’s IT harmonisation project is being supported by SAP, following the signing of a deal that will see the organisation’s automotive supply chain and financial processes all standardised on SAP.
The organisation has entered into what SAP terms a GES (global enterprise agreement) in which SAP offers Daimler broad access to licensed SAP solutions and technology.
It says the agreement will accelerate worldwide rollout of end-to-end business solutions using a wide range of SAP solutions, forming an enterprise service-oriented architecture, based on SAP’s NetWeaver technology platform.
“SAP continues to be our trusted partner and will extend its importance for our IT strategy as we journey toward standardisation and harmonisation and also into enterprise SOA,” says Dr Michael Gorriz, CIO of Daimler. “This agreement with SAP is important to the success of our IT harmonisation strategy and frees us to concentrate on our core business.”
The agreement includes software, software maintenance, strategic software developments, ‘maximum attention’ support and consulting services. Gorriz cites business benefits as including cost reduction and increased efficiency, process stability and flexibility in auto production and Daimler’s key automotive processes.
