SolidCAM sees success on back of SolidWorks 3D modelling

SolidCAM, the integrated CAM (computer aided manufacturing) software for the SolidWorks 3D modelling suite, is the fastest growing CAM software vendor for the third consecutive year.

PLM (product lifecycle management) and CAD consultancy CIMdata, which monitors the market globally, says the company is growing at 35.7% per year – eight times the mean rate for the sector. “SolidCAM has established a distinctive position in the market by being one of two CAM vendors to be certified Gold partner of SolidWorks,” says Alan Christman, CIMdata Chairman and author of the report. “They have been able to capitalise on this partnership, and the acceptance of SolidWorks in the mid-range design market is the primary reason for their rapid growth.” SolidCAM is single-window integrated with SolidWorks, which enables all operations for manufacturing of a part from within the SolidWorks CAD environment. All SolidCAM machining operations are defined, calculated and verified in the SolidWorks environment. Likewise, all geometries used for machining are associative with the SolidWorks design model. When the geometry of a part of the mould design is modified, SolidCAM enables the user to automatically synchronise all machining operations with the updated geometry. Since no data translation is necessary, there is no time wasting or risk of errors.
